If you wanted the sky...

There are photographs that create a moment that you didn't know would be there, like the Candy Land shots I captured yesterday, but then there are the days when you know well in advance that a moment is looming and, despite your best efforts, you simply cannot capture it adequately.

Today was my daughter's last day of day care forever. She's spent the last two and a bit years at a good place full of good people who have done so much for her. Anyone who knew how dreadfully she got on in her first few months of institutional care, will know just how emotionally fulsome this day was for all of us. Here she is with her beloved teacher, Fiona. Just beyond the frame, she's waving goodbye to her friends.

"You taught me right from wrong, and weak from strong ... that's a lot to learn."

  1. i remember the daycare struggles you all had. oof. this, then, is a bittersweet moment, indeed. While the photo itself may not be award winning, it's doing what you want the photo to do for YOU: call to memory the moment and all the emotions that it contained.

  2. "To Sir with love" yes? Gulp. Beautiful memories with many more ahead.

  3. You may not have captured the moment the way you envisioned in your head but I can see the kindness in Fiona's eyes.
